Community legal & mediation services
Not-for-profit legal services assisting people on low income
are independent not-for-profit community organisations that provide legal and related services to the public. CLCs primarily serve people who are experiencing economic, social or cultural disadvantage, or who may have complex problems.
CLCs are staffed by solicitors, legal advisors and support staff who provide legal advice, assistance and referral to community members who may not otherwise be able to obtain legal services. Generalist centres provide free initial consultations on various legal matters. In South Australia there are specialist centres providing services to children and youth and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Mediation services are also provided by some centres.
