Bees, brumbies & budgies!
Animals and birds are an important part of life for many people.
We love our pets, companion animals, our native wildlife and the special animals that help people with sensory disabilities such as vision and hearing loss.
There are lots of opportunities throughout South Australia to join with others who are involved with animals, whether that is caring for a pet, providing welfare and rescue services for animals, or training an animal to be a companion or guide.
Along with well known organisations such as , and the , here are a few that you might not have come across before:
- patrolling the Port River and rescuing dolphins and other marine wildlife
- a group of people who are interested in all aspects of beekeeping
– provide a visiting service taking dogs to residential aged care homes
– caring for brumbies that are the descendants of ponies that were brought to the Coffin Bay area in 1839
– an organisation for donkey and mule lovers who get together for shows, information events, weekend excursions and parties. They also rescue and rehabilitate donkeys.
– for people interested in budgerigar keeping, breeding and showing
- attending to sick and injured birds of prey
